Opening Session
July 13, 2006 by PingLorrie Cranor began the day with a short introductory session. Thanks to her, to the chairs, and program committee for organizing this event. There are 99 people attending, 39 papers submitted and 14 papers accepted this year.
Amusingly, SOUPS received an e-mail message from Nigeria announcing that three people from there were registering for the conference. The registration payments went through, and there was some doubt as to whether the message was for real. As it turned out, the payments were made on a stolen credit card.

The motivation is to get invitation letters from the conference organizers so that the travelers can get visas to enter the country.
We have seen this with other conferences too.
