Opening Session

July 13, 2006 by Ping

Lorrie Cranor began the day with a short introductory session.  Thanks to her, to the chairs, and program committee for organizing this event.  There are 99 people attending, 39 papers submitted and 14 papers accepted this year.

Amusingly, SOUPS received an e-mail message from Nigeria announcing that three people from there were registering for the conference.  The registration payments went through, and there was some doubt as to whether the message was for real.  As it turned out, the payments were made on a stolen credit card.

The motivation is to get invitation letters from the conference organizers so that the travelers can get visas to enter the country.

We have seen this with other conferences too.

I’ve tried to sign up on this blog, but WordPress didn’t send me a password!

In any event, I’ve set up an HCISECWiki at http://www.hcisecwiki.org/. My goal is to move over the bibliographies to the site and make it easier for the community to maintain a general resource.

I need a better icon.

Funny. I got a message from WordPress telling me you had registered. Could you try asking it to send you your password again?

About the bibliographies: cool! I had plans to add an editable-bibliography component to this site, but i haven’t gotten around to programming a bibliography module for WordPress yet.

Lorrie made a good point that it’s unlikely the Nigerian government would use three exclamation points in the subject line.
